The winning artists of the Vasse Art Award were announced at a spectacular garden party at Vasse Primary School last night.
Congratulations to Andy Quilty for taking out First Prize of $8,000 for “Winston (Young One)” (pictured above) and Karen Frankel for winning the Second Prize of $2,000 for “Banksias”. Both prizes were generously sponsored by Vasse Development/Hanson Property and Bendigo Bank Busselton.
The inaugural Indigenous Art Prize of $2,000 sponsored by Leeuwin Civil was won by Kim Stanley for her sculpture “Maar-Keyen”.
Two Home Grown prizes of $500 were awarded to Lesley Meaney for “Fallen Eucalypt in Spinifex Country” and Sam Broadhurst for “Beach Tide”. Both prizes sponsored by Professionals Busselton and Seaman Family Trust.
The VAA’s Emerging Talent this year was Dorothy Davies for “Plum Bay”, winning a $500 prize sponsored by the Seaman Family Trust. Highly Commended prizes of $250 each sponsored by Brad Nugent Psychology were awarded to Peter Zappa for “Suspended Sentence”, Donovan Fisher for “Alfred Cortot”, Simon Hemsley for “Mother and Child” and Matthew Thorley for “Dusty Sunset”
Visitors of the exhibition this week will have a chance to vote on their favourite piece and the artist who collects the most votes will receive the People’s Choice award of $1,000, sponsored by the Seaman Family Trust. Vasse Primary School students have also been voting on their favourites and the Student’s Choice prize of $200 sponsored by M&MJ Construction will be announced next term.
