What a night! The large spheres of light in the gardens, and the sparkle of wine glasses welcomed invited guests to a magical night of art appreciation at the 2021 VAA Opening Night and Award Presentation. This year’s exhibition, held at Vasse Primary School with event partners Vasse Development and Bendigo Bank, is an eclectic mix of mediums that were curated expertly by volunteer curator Brenda Ellen, showcasing artwork in a pleasing flow of colour tones. Many artworks displayed were from emerging artists, as well as returning VAA past winners such as Christine Blowfield, Sam Broadhurst, Karen Frankel, Kay Gibson, Alicia Gorey, Douglas Kirsop, Lesley Meaney, just to name a few.
Guests mingled under the stars, and were served a feast of delicious canapés and local Margaret River Wines.
The 2021 Vasse Art Awards ceremony, opened by Principal Simon Mansfield, introducing Event Partners Sam Hanson from Vasse Development and Josh Hardy from Bendigo Bank who congratulated the winners. Steve Tribbeck, one of this year’s judges and representee of fellow VAA21 Judges, Karen Morgan and Dellas Bennell, spoke of the thought processes behind their choices of award winners. This year’s winners were announced and presented with their awards. Congratulations to Josh Windram (1st Prize); Peter Allpress (2nd Prize); Cassandra Bynder (Indigenous Art Prize); Arna Sternberg (Timothee Vasse Art Prize); Sarah Malone (Homegrown Art Prize); Linda Fardoe (Highly Commended); Ryan Andrew Lee (Highly Commended).
