Mary-Lynne Stratton
Mary-Lynne Stratton is an award winning artist with a BA in Painting and printmaking who has lived in Yallingup for 35 years. She is respresented by Yallingup Galleries and has exhibited with them over the last 15 years. “I am a landscape painter who mainly works in oils, gouache and acrylics and find my inspiration in the chaotic nature of the bush around me and in the northern parts of WA and NT. I look for ways to express an emotional response to the landscape and use the plein air paintings as a jumping off point to begin larger studio works. My approach is quite intuitive working in layers applied thinly to build up the surface through both chance and change looking for certain passages of paint to suggest possibilities of what the work may become. Nothing is fixed too early and the work remains fluid allowing the painting to evolve slowly. Memory plays an important role and somehow these memories of places you have painted in are distilled and find their way onto the canvas in surprising ways.”
